மதுரையைச் சேர்ந்த்த புகழ் பெற்றத் தமிழறிஞர் சாலமன் பாப்பையா. இனியத் தமிழில் நகைச்சுவையாக உரையாற்றும் திறமை வாய்ந்தப் பேச்சாளர். சமூகத்திலும் இல்லங்களிலும் அன்றாடம் நிகழும் நிகழ்வுகளை மையமாகக் கொண்டு பட்டிமன்றங்களை நடத்தியவர். இவற்றின் மூலம் மக்கள் மனதில் நீங்கா இடம் பிடித்தவர். சன் தொலைக்காட்சியில் தினமும் காலையில் திருக்குறளுக்கும், சங்க இலக்கியப் பாடல்களுக்கும் விளக்கம் கூறி அவற்றில் உள்ள சுவைகளை மக்களுக்கு அறிமுகப்படுத்தினார். இவர் சில திரைப்படங்களிலும் நடித்துள்ளார்.
